Title: From West Africa

The dress in its physical and digital forms pays homage to the cultural roots that are now separated from my family much like many other Black Americans. The fabric design is inspired by Ankara patterns from my ancestral land of Nigeria. The style of dress is based on popular silhouette and design details of Nigerian dresses. The West African and American influence represented in the dress are tied to my family’s cultural heritage.
